Robert W. Bliss

Robert W. Bliss, 87, of Marathon, NY, affectionately known to his grandchildren and their friends as "Bobbo,"  passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, December 22, 2024, while surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was born in Marathon, NY on April 23, 1937, the son of the late Walter Harold Bliss and Florence Adams Bliss. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a member of the Marathon Presbyterian Church. He dedicated 25 years of his life to proudly owning and operating a dairy farm. His career also included a stint with Agway, where he delivered fuel, and he was known for his skills in construction, having built many decks throughout the area. Additionally, he provided lawn mowing services for several families, reflecting his strong work ethic and commitment to service.

A devoted family man, Bob cherished the time spent with his loved ones, taking great joy in being actively involved in the lives of his grandchildren and supporting their sports endeavors. His warm personality and deep love for his family left a significant impact on everyone who knew him.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 67 plus years, Diane Doyle Bliss. He is also survived by his children: Don (Mary) Bliss of Marathon, Nancy (Michael) Griep of Preble, Kelly (Harold “Ham”) Knapp of Marathon, and Tracy (Marty) Kinner of Marathon. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Amanda (Brady) Rourke, Rebecca (Mike) Wagenhauser, Matthew (Erin) Griep, Danielle (Josh) Maciorowski, Hannah (Brad) Proper, Jacob (Rebecca) Griep, Trent (Katrina) Knapp, Tessa Knapp, Tatum Knapp, Adam Underwood, and Shelby (Austin) Barnes, alongside his step-grandchildren, Terianne (Josh) Montoya and Mark Kinner. He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. He also leaves behind a sister, Darlyne (Moe) Kinner; a sister-in-law ,Sandra Bliss; a brother-in-law, George Wagner, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, will remember him fondly.

Bob was the son of, Walter Harold Bliss and Florence Adams Bliss.  After Florence's death, Walter married Velma Euson and they both predeceased Bob in 1979.  He was also predeceased by his brother, Walter "Skip" Bliss, Jr., and his sister, Marilyn Wagner.

Memorial services for Bob will be held at the Marathon Memorial Chapel, 4071 State Route 221, Marathon, NY on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Tom Boice officiating.  The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until the start of the service at 1:00 p.m.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Bob may be directed to the MAVAC Building Fund, P.O Box 132, Marathon, NY 13803 or the Marathon Presbyterian Church, 3 Park Street, Marathon, NY 13803.
