Patricia L. McConnell

Patricia L. "Miss Patty" (Gilbert) McConnell, 73, of Marathon, NY, passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at the Guthrie Cortland Regional Medical Center, Cortland, NY.

Born in Cortland, NY, on August 25, 1948, Patty was the daughter of Leeland and Iva Allen Gilbert. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a member of the Marathon Area Historical Society and served as the Town and Village Historian of Marathon for several years. She remained active with the historical society until her passing. She had also previously served as a trustee for the Village of Marathon and was a member of the Friends of the Peck Library. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, crocheting, reading books, watching old movies, but most of all, listening to old music (especially Daniel O'Donnell), and of course, dancing. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone.

In addition to her mother, Iva Gilbert, of McGraw, she is survived by her husband of 41 years, James F. McConnell of Marathon; and her children, David (Debi) O'Shea of Marathon, Tammy (Joe) Howe of Ogdensburg, Jeffrey (Amy) O'Shea of Marathon, and Chuck Malmberg of Cincinnatus. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Davey, Joey, Lauren, Travis, Eric, Travus, Allison and Jared; a great-grandson, Kai and one due in December; her brothers, Paul (Ann) Gilbert of Rochester and Tom (Wendy) Gilbert of Marathon; her sisters, Barb Babbitt of Cortland and Susie (Jack) Monroe of Solon; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her father, she was predeceased by her siblings, Phyllis Gilbert, Kenny Gilbert and Cathy Crumb.

The family will be present to receive friends at the Marathon Memorial Chapel, 4071 State Route 221, Marathon, NY, on Friday, October 1, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
