Karen A. Carter, 50, of Marathon, NY, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024, while surrounded by her loving family.
Karen was born on January 17, 1974, in Danbury, CT, the daughter of Eugene, Jr. and Cheryl Colbert Baumgardner. Karen was an individual who found immense joy in music and attending concerts, and would often express her creativity through writing poems. Her love for the ocean was unparalleled, bringing her a sense of peace and tranquility.
Karen's devotion to her family was evident in every aspect of her life. She cherished her role as a wife to Jason Carter for 21 years and a mother to Zoë (Sawyer Secoolish) Carter and Brie (Joshua Pond) Carter of Johnson City, and Bode (Autumn Young) Carter of Marathon. Her presence brought light and warmth to those around her. She also leaves behind her father, Eugene (Pat) Baumgardner Jr. of Ocala, FL, a grandson, Leo Secoolish; her mom Tami Baumgardner of Enfield, CT; a sister, Laura (Joe) Verallis of Palmer, MA,; brothers, Scott Pinney of Connecticut and Eugene Baumgardner III of Kansas; paternal grandmother, Esther Shoemaker of Enfield, CT; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her mother, she was also predeceased by a brother, Sean Baumgardner.
A visitation in remembrance of Karen's life will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2024 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Marathon Memorial Chapel, 4071 State Route 221, Marathon, NY. There will be no formal funeral service. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Karen may be directed to the Marathon Central School Booster Club, P.O. Box 339, Marathon, NY 13803.
Karen's memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who were touched by her kindness, compassion, and unwavering love. May she rest in peace knowing that she was deeply cherished and will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
