Joan Merihew

Joan F. (Murray) Merihew, 92, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at the Guthrie Cortland Regional Medical Center, Cortland, NY.

Born in Ocean Side, NY, on March 26, 1932, Joan was the daughter of the late Walter and Marion Bedell Murray. She was a longtime resident of the area and a member of the United Methodist Church of Marathon. Prior to her retirement, she had worked as an accounts payable representative for the Cortland Memorial Hospital. She was a past president and member of the Marathon Fire Department Auxiliary. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, she will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Bob) McAllister of Harford, Connie Daugherty of Marathon, and Susan (Bob) Marshall of Marathon. She also leaves behind a sister, Marion Tallman of Whitney Point; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband of 74 years, Glenn “Tony” Merihew on May 5, 2024; brothers, Walter “Buzzy” Murray and Robert Murray; a great-grandson, Steven Larkin; and a brother-in-law, Richard Tallman.

Memorial services for Joan will be held at the Marathon Memorial Chapel, 4071 Route 221, Marathon, NY, on Monday, July 1, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., with Reverend Tom Boice officiating. Burial will be in Marathon Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, July 1, 2024, from 11:30 a.m. until the start of the service at 1:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Joan may be directed to the Marathon Fire Department, P.O.
