Dr. LaVerne S. Dann, DVM, 93, of Marathon, NY, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2023, at Lourde’s Hospital, Binghamton, NY, while surrounded by his family.
Dr. Dann was born in Binghamton, NY, on May 12, 1930, the son of the late Wellington and Virginia Griffin Dann. A longtime resident of Marathon, he was a member of the Marathon Presbyterian Church. He graduated from Cornell University in 1953 with a Doctorate in Veterinarian Medicine. Prior to that, he had served in the U.S. Army Reserves during the Korean Conflict. He was a 66-year member and past master of Marathon Lodge #438 Free and Accepted Masons and a 62-year member of the Marathon Lions Club. He was also a member of the NYS Pistol Association. Dr. Dann was an avid ham radio operator and photographer who enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting.
He is survived by his sons, Robert (Cheryl) Dann of Bainbridge, David (Bonny Wright) Dann of Mauldin, SC, James (Shari) Dann, Douglas (Teresa) Dann and Jeffrey (Heather) Dann, all of Marathon. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Rebecca Lowie, Ian Dann, Nicole Clinton, Erin Sauer, Hillary Williams, Jeremy Dann, Clayton Dann, Adam Dann, Angela Quinto, Andrew Dann, Nicole Cataldo, Michael Dann, Zackery Dann, Jon Schneider, Brendan Schneider, Anson Dann, and Kyle Dann. He also leaves behind 26 great-grandchildren; brothers, Duane Dann of Skaneateles, and Raymond (Margaret) Dann of Pottersville, NJ; a sister, Linda (William) Fitzhugh of Reisterstown, MD; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Grace Dann, on May 1, 2001; and siblings, Merlin Dann and Lorraine Dempsey.
