Douglas B. Myers, Sr., 79, of Marathon, NY, passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City, NY.
Doug was born on June 26, 1945, in Cortland, NY, the son of the late Merrill Myers and Ruth Bruce Lockwood. Prior to his retirement, Doug dedicated more than 35 years of service to Conrail, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to his job. His professional life was marked by diligence and respect from colleagues and those who worked alongside him.
Doug was an avid fisherman and a proud member of the Kick Bass Fishing Club. He served as president of the CNY Bass Association for several years and was a member of the Car Toppers Fishing Club. He cherished the moments spent on the water, which served as a backdrop for his love of the outdoors. In addition to his passion for fishing, Doug enjoyed motorcycle riding and found immense joy in attending his grandchildren's events. These family gatherings and milestones brought him great happiness and remained a central theme in his life.
He leaves behind a loving family, including his beautiful bride, Debbie Rood-Slack-Myers; sons Kenneth Crapo and Norman (Barb) Crapo all of Killawog; daughter Monique (Dan) Yerian of Marathon; daughter Ellen (Timothy) Robison of McLean; son Douglas (Michelle) Myers, Jr. of Cortland; son-in-law, Colin Michael of KY; stepchildren, Geoff Tompkins of Chenango Forks, Jason (Marevic) Tompkins of WV, Jon (Sheila) Tompkins of Chenango Forks, Jordan (Tab) Slack of Whitney Point, Alexis Cron of Lisle; and a stepsister, Kandi Greene. He also leaves behind 27 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren who will forever hold treasured memories of their time together, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and too many to mention extended family members.
In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by beloved family members, including his first wife, Joyce Vanderpool Myers; daughter Crystal Crapo Michael; and brothers Edward and Leonard Myers. The legacy of love and kindness he cultivated throughout his life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
