Donna E. (Harris) Cross Genson, a beloved member of her community, passed away peacefully at her home in Freetown, on Saturday, December 14, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Born on March 12, 1946, in Sidney, NY, Donna’s home was in Guilford, NY. She dedicated her life to her family and work, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and love. A longtime resident of Freetown she was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Marathon.
Throughout her career, Donna was known as an extremely hard worker. She held several positions before retiring from Kathy's Diner, where she worked as a waitress. Her dedication and commitment to her job were evident, and she touched many lives with her warm presence, friendly demeanor and unique sense of humor.
Family was central to Donna’s life. She cherished time spent with her loved ones, creating lasting memories during family get togethers, game nights, and joyous parties. Donna had a penchant for window shopping and enjoyed discovering treasures at garage sales, always finding delight in the simple pleasures of life.
Surviving family members include her children, Shelli Cross of Marathon, Wendi (Nicholas) Hinds of Lockport, Thomas Cross of Freetown, Jenni (Michael) O'Laskey of Reno, NV, and Elaine Scott of Texas. Donna was also the proud grandmother to Sherri Chase, Jason Chase, Rachael Chase, Nathan Hinds, Donnalyn (Nathan) Moran, Jacki Cross, Krissie Cross, and Kayla Smith. She was blessed with several great-grandchildren, including Jayden-Lyn, Davin, Aleena, Raelyn, and Josilee.
Donna is also survived by her siblings, Marlene Marvin of McGraw, Sondra Bush of Arizona, Wayne Harris of Newark Valley, Joellen (Dennis) Deiss of Cincinnatus, Mark (Darlene) Harris of Marathon, and Cody (Sharon) Harris of McGraw, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Marathon, 5 Park Street, Marathon, NY. She will be remembered not only for her unwavering love for her family but also for the joy she brought to those fortunate enough to know her. Burial in Freetown Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.
