Barbara A. (Stengle) Brown, 87, formerly of Marathon, NY, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse, NY.
Born in Buffalo, NY, on August 12, 1936, Barb was the daughter of the late Marshall and Lottie Marcovitch Stengle. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a psychologist for the Chenango Valley Central School District. She had also served as a counselor for Overeater’s Anonymous. She, alongside her late husband, Lawrence “Corky” Brown, operated the L.B. Brown Halflingers, breeding, training, and showing horses for 25 years. After her retirement, Barb enjoyed biking, hiking, sewing, skiing and music.
She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Robertson of Syracuse and Jennifer Dovin of Binghamton, and her grandchildren, Tyler and Alyssa Dovin of Binghamton, and Phoenix Robertson of Philadelphia. She also leaves behind her stepchildren, Lee (Kim) Brown of Lapeer, Suzanne (Michael) McCutcheon of Cortland, Melissa (Ward) Fox of Marathon, Jenna (Katherine Craig) Brown of Cortland, and Daniel (Suzanne) Brown of Westchester, PA; and their many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Gilbert and William Stengle; a stepson, Allan Joseph Brown; her first husband, Murry Fox, the father of Lisa and Jennifer; along with her parents and husband Lawrence L. “Corky” Brown.
Friends are invited to call at the Marathon Memorial Chapel, 4071 State Route 221, Marathon, NY, on Monday, June 24, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a brief time of sharing at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow at Parker Street Cemetery, Lapeer, NY. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Barb may be directed to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
